Charles Smiley, the well-known poultry fancier, died at his  home south of Milligan at four this morning. He had been an  invalid for several years. Funeral services at the home on Friday  afternoon.

Charles A. Smiley, age 64, lifelong farmer and fancy poultry  raiser, died at 4 o'clock Thursday morning at his home north of  the Greene Twp. school. He had been ill 4 years with a  complication of diseases. He undoubtedly won more awards for  prize poultry than any other Parke County man. Mr. Smiley was  born May 28, 1876 the son of Thomas and Mary Porter Smiley and  was a member of the Parkeville Christian Church. Surviving are  the widow and 3 children: Mrs. Rudolph Fordice, Russellville and  Fred and Virgil Smiley of near Milligan; two brothers, Albert of  Rockville and Clay of near Milligan; a sister, Mrs. Joe McClain  of near Rockville and five grandchildren. Funeral services were  conducted at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, Oct 26 at the  family residence, Rev CC Griggs officiating, burial in Seceder  Cemetery north of Portland Mills. -- kbz
